Hello Everyone,
Although I spent two weeks of September in Victoria and am spending this week recovering from a hernia operation I have still kept in touch with some members during this time and know the “flying weather” has been diabolical to say the least.
Although we’re not flying it is important for us to maintain our interest in our Club and activities. I am hoping that we may soon be able to conduct our special events which we so enjoy. It is marvellous what a “Tomboy” day will do for our spirits. To break the “drought” the forecasts for the week look promising and I hope we have a good attendance at this Saturday’s Club Day.
Whilst in Victoria I enjoyed my annual pilgrimage to the Shepparton Mammoth Scale weekend. I enjoyed Saturday’s wonderful weather with more than 120 models on show and up to six models in the air at once all day long. I met up with John Madden, Phil Rayner and David Munday, a past LMAC member. It was also very pleasing to catch up an old modeller friend, Alby Higgins, from Castlemaine.
David introduced me to Alby a few years ago and since then I have purchased several of Alby’s models. He is 84 years old and just keeps on building models most days of the week. He would have at least twenty models completed in his “hangar” and new ones on the building board.
As usual there were many beautiful models flying (at Shepparton) including one with O.S. twin 7 cylinder radial motors – sounded great. I’m sure Greg R would have loved the jet turbine powered glider and another giant one which was towed by a large Piper Pawnee.
Sunday 16th saw me at the Greensborough Model Aero Club which is a few kilometres from my daughter’s home. Models that caught my attention there included a beautiful ARF Stinson Voyager, an immaculate S.E. 5 and a much modified Senior Telemaster with an O.S. 200 F.S motor.
Closer to home now: George Carnie is to be complemented on his “Around the Hangar” report. I know I thoroughly enjoy George’s reports as they are always comprehensive and colourful. I was pleased to hear that Mick Madden has now flown his Tiger 60 after the nasty prop incident.
I rang Dave Jacobs last week and had a good “yarn”. He was very philosophical about his broken ankle and said it was on the mend but will be in plaster for four weeks. It is also pleasing to know Merv. and Geoff are now feeling much better.
Our next Committee meeting is on next Monday, 8th October. Please contact any one of your committee members if you have any concerns or suggestions that you would like the Committee to discuss then.
“til next time,
Safe Flying!
