Hello Everyone,
In the last paragraph of my March Report I mentioned the fact that I had visited Greg Robertson in St Vincent’s Hospital and that he hoped to be there for only a few days. Circumstance changed rather rapidly and Greg was moved to the Launceston General Hospital for urgent surgery that evening, returning from theatre around 11.30 p.m.
Most of our members now know the circumstances of this operation and are really pleased that Greg is making a very good and speedy recovery. This morning Greg informed me that he has started his daily walking routine again and has been back in the workshop for a little while each day. (Can’t keep a good modeller down!!!!!!)
Because of all the enquiries, phone calls, cards, concerns and well wishes Greg received, he and Alice have asked that I, on their behalf, thank you all for caring so much. It was truly appreciated.
A not so good news story this month was the sudden passing of another of our aero modelling friends, Royce Close. I first met Royce in the early ‘60s when I was using a Silvetone ground based Tx which used very expensive batteries. He helped solve this problem and I was very appreciative. Royce was always good company and is a sad loss to our fraternity. His very good mate, Terry, went to the funeral and later related to us that it was a very big funeral and he was surprised that Royce had been a member of so many organizations. The large attendance no doubt bore testimony to him being a truly valued person.
There are many members of our club who are to be praised for their work and dedication. This time I’d like to commend George for his tireless work, not only as Treasurer, but as Webmaster. Our website would have to be the most active and informative of all the Tasmanian clubs, keeping us up-to-date with what is going on, details of club functions, Committee reports from Geoff, uploading photographs and the interesting and entertaining Hangar Report to mention a few. Thanks George!
Work on our new site and buildings has continued and we are close to putting the finishing touches. Geoff and his team have worked tirelessly for many months now and this week have installed the new urinal and wash basin in the toilet. Plumbing will be completed on Thursday. Shelves have been erected in the machinery shed and the barbecue area fully covered for shelter. I would like to pay tribute to our hard working ladies, Kerry, Tanya and Faye. They have spent many hours cleaning within the clubhouse, made lovely curtains, covered some of the benches and painted the cupboards as well as shifting much of the firewood. Alice also helped before Greg became ill. Well done ladies!
George has mentioned the fact that Deanna Klimeck and family will be spreading Chris’s ashes on the old strip as per Chris’s wishes at 11.30 a,m, on Saturday We are all invited to attend. Chris is still sorely missed by many of us not only as a fellow flyer but also as a friend.
This Saturday is our first Club Day for the year and I hope members will make a big effort to attend. Even though the strip is not 100% yet, many of us have enjoyed several flights from it.
“til next time,
Safe Flying,
FRED WILLIS
