Hello Everyone,
I must thank the many members who attended our special club day when the spreading of Chris Klimeck’s ashes took place. Originally the ashes were to be spread over the old field but the squally conditions precluded this so the new site was chosen. I think Chris would have liked this anyway and won’t be a lonely soul, now being closer to his mates.
After a brief ceremony conducted by Chris’s wife, Deanna and one of his sons, Chris’s ashes flew over the field assisted by the strong wind. A very touching occasion indeed. Following this a beautiful barbecue lunch with all the trimmings was enjoyed by our members and Deanna’s family. A heartfelt “thank you” to the ladies for this big effort.
Last newsletter I mentioned all the good work George does for the club. This time I can’t give enough accolades to Geoff for the work he has done in helping make our facilities as good as they now are. He has worked tirelessly on the toilets and the path to it as well as much of the fitting out in the clubroom. He has had a solid crew to call upon when required but it’s his leadership that has ensured that the tasks are done. Well done, Geoff and “thank you!”
I am sure that many of us are looking forward to having some fun events soon and I expect it won’t be long before the committee lists these events. Please inform any committee member of the type of events you would like to see in the new calendar. I realize it has been a long slog getting the new site up to scratch but most members have been flying for some time now. Merv even mentioned that he has had 28 flights with his new Lazy Ace lately.
Rumours of some discontent are surfacing re the fees for 2012/13 not providing value due to the initial loss of flying time. Well, I’m sorry but every member, flying or not, has had great value for their dollar this year. The upgrade and relocation alone have been very costly not to mention the fact that we are been fortunate in still having a site to fly on. It could have been the opposite.
Regretfully I haven’t been able to fly lately as I’m still in the recovery process following surgery but I did hear there was a good rollup today with all enjoying a beautiful Autumn Day. Despite some inconvenience, I have been able to fit servos in my Dallaire old timer along with the Thunder Tiger 54FS motor. It has so much dihedral aerobatics are out of the question and windy days will certainly be a “no-no”.
Please don’t forget our Annual General Meeting on Monday, 3rd June. Some positions on the committee will become vacant so please put your hand up if you think you could make a valuable contribution.
“til next time,
Safe Flying,
FRED WILLIS
