Ceiling Height Extension & Area Approval

Ceiling Height Extension

Please read and understand the Letter of Agreement so you understand what the requirements are for flying operations above 400FT AGL.

Key points to note are:

  • Original Date: October 20, 2016
  • Review Date: January 9, 2023
  • Authority to operate above 400′ to a maximum of 1000′ is limited to 4 calendar days per month. (The committee intends for this to operate on each Saturday of the month unless otherwise advised.)
  • The Launceston Tower (TWR) must be contacted and approval granted before any operations above 400 FT AGL can commence.
  • Contact numbers are –
    • PRIMARY – 03 6391 6992 or
    • SECONDARY – 03 6391 6993
  • When instructed by TWR to do so, ensure all operations above 400 FT AGL cease within 5 min of the instruction.
  • TWR is to be advised as soon as possible of limit infringements or when a flyaway situation is recognised.
  • Advise TWR when operations above 400 FT AGL have ceased.
  • The person responsible for the clearance request must provide a primary and secondary number to the TWR and remain contactable until operations above 400 FT AGL cease. This person should be the safety officer (observer for manned aircraft) or nominate someone to do the task.
  • Should communication breakdown, all operations above 400 FT AGL are to cease.

The complete LoA can be found here (Updated June 3, 2024)

Area Approval

CASA has granted LMAC an “Area Approval” to operate from our Symmons Plains site. This approval is valid until February 28, 2028. We must apply for a renewal at least 6 months before the expiry to ensure a smooth transition to a new approval. The approval instrument can be found here
