Hello Everyone,
It is with a heavy heart that I begin to write my report this month following the passing of one of our treasured members, Peter Riall. I don’t aim to write much about Peter as I feel that George has expressed all of our sentiments so adequately and sensitively in his email to members entitled “Vale, Peter Riall.” Many thanks George as we know it’s from the heart.
One of my very fond memories of Peter was of his encouraging me to retrieve my trainer from the top of one of the notorious pine trees. I was about to give up when Peter helped drag a long length of poly pipe from the hangar and with much probing and prodding we eventually released the plane from its perch.
His persistence and perseverance enabled me to save my model with very little damage. It was a privilege to know him. R.I.P. Peter.
Last Saturday was Club Day with the weather being about the best we’ve had during these winter months. We didn’t have a great attendance but those of us who did attend had a really great day. Thanks again to Kerry and her crew for working on the barbecue.
George was busy with his camera so, hopefully, we can look forward to some photos on our website and maybe a report on the day’s activities. (Just completed and uploaded – G) Great to see Mike Madden back at the field even though he didn’t fly. Mike’s fingers have healed well so it may not be long before he will be back with the Tiger 60.
Highlight of the day was Chris Klimeck’s flying of his new, scratch built Melody bi-plane. This was superbly built, beautifully finished and flew extremely well. It is powered by a Super Tigre 2300. Well done Chris!
I spoke with our Secretary, Geoff Hays last week after his release from hospital. Geoff had a serious heart attack and was still feeling quite weak but he assured me that he was recovering after such a scare. We are thinking of you Geoff and wish you a very speedy recovery.
I noticed that Doug C’s 30th wedding anniversary was mentioned on the Buy and Sell site as an inducement to prospective buyers of some of his models. 30% off was offered until 30th August but, even though that time has now elapsed, I’m sure Doug would still do a deal. By-the-way Doug, Gloria and I will have our 50th in October but I have no 50% off deals to offer at present.
Next Tuesday I’m off to Victoria for two weeks. As well as staying with my daughter I’ll be making my annual pilgrimage to the Shepparton Mammoth Scale meeting on 15th and 16th of September. Hopefully the weather will be kind and I’ll be able to bring back some photos and commentary of the meeting. Some of you may remember David Munday, a past member of LMAC. We have arranged to meet and catch up on the latest news.
“til next time,
Safe Flying!
