Hi All,
Well here we are again, it seems so long now since I last gave you my report, but seeing as we that is the committee now only meet every 2 months it is quite a while in between. In that time maybe there is quite a lot happening or maybe not, it really depends on whether everything is going OK. Anyhow your committee met on the 12th of October for its scheduled meeting and I do have something to report on.
The committee has decided to review the prices of canteen items they are as follows; Soft drinks and sausages have moved to $2.00 each but hamburgers remain at $2.50. Speaking of hamburgers, as many of you will be aware, these have been made by Alice but we have been notified that she is now unable to perform this task, The Committee expresses their thanks to her for doing this over a long period of time. THANK YOU ALICE.
The committee has reviewed the position of new members applying for membership of the club, and has decided to reintroduce an application fee that will be $10.00 effective immediately. If members still have their event calendars you will notice that the club annual dinner and trophy night is scheduled for November 18th. At this stage we are yet to make a decision as to where it may be held. In the recent past years it has been held at the Centennial Hotel but the business has closed, so another venue needs to be found. if any of the members would like to suggest a suitable venue we will certainly check it out. A decision needs to be made within the next 2 weeks at least.
It was decided to change the weather forecast link on our website and webmaster George will be looking into this as the Willy Weather is considered not as reliable as some of the others providing this service.
I would suppose that we as humans do tend to get a little complacent from time to time, it has been brought to the committee’s attention a couple of items that needs to be tightened up on. The committee feels that on the flying field where people are enjoying themselves and there are women and youngsters sometimes present there is absolutely no place for bad language regardless of the circumstances. Also we do seem to have sometimes forgotten the club rule of pilots calling their intentions as to what they are about to do, certainly if it is a fast low pass or 3D flying in the middle of the strip where there may be others about to take off or indeed are flying and standing in the pilots area. The committee advises in the interests of safety and we must always be aware of that, that these manoeuvres be under taken to the western side of the landing strip which makes for much safer flying for all.
Another topic that we discussed is that of teaching new members to fly, and whilst it has now been the club practice of only qualified instructors performing this task the committee feels that competent Gold wing pilots can actually teach a new chum to fly but the final test for the Bronze or Gold wings be done by a qualified instructor to deem if in fact that person is suitable to gain his or her wings.
Another end of year Raffle will be in motion again this year and if any members feel that they could donate something for this it would be most welcome (please contact Kerry), the raffle will be drawn at the field on December 17th at the fun fly Christmas function.
Well that about wraps it up for me for now I would leave you all with this
(Life is a movie and you’re the star. Give it a happy ending)
I do wish you all great flying and most of all many Happy landings.
Geoff.
